This semi-common Opiate print was an early telltale sign of Tool's advocacy of free thought, comparing religion to an "Opiate For the Masses". While never directly regarded as a Cam de Leon design, the hands on the back strongly resemble hands of his later works (Secret; Suffocate). This print was produced into the mid-Ænima era, and the Giant tag indicates they were well into their merchandising contract, so I'd clock this actual piece of fabric at the mid-late '90s, despite the design originating in 1992. Check my upload of the longsleeve black version for a view of some interesting early Tool ephemera.
Nice shirt bro! I'm looking for this one to top off my small collection. Do you usually see these on eBay or Grailed or should I search elsewhere? Also, ABSOLUTE FIRE collection my guy! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ah, hello hello. They're actually not super uncommon on those sites; the problem with this one (like the Wrench shirt) is that even though the shirt was printed well into the Ænima era, the copyright always reads 1992. Thus, when people sell it, they try to market it as this hyper-limited print that was available at 5 shows during the Opiate tour, so the price fluctuates greatly. With that said, there are a few rare variations in color and sleeve length which are highly valuable to collectors. Thank you for the fire!
