Back when I was really young, like 3/4, my parents used to play this music collection called AM Gold when we'd go on road trips. It consisted of late 60s/early 70s Top 40 crap year by year, but one of the discs had "Ballroom Blitz". Sweet was one of the few hard rock bands in the early 70s who was able to cross over into pop territory, mainly because they started as a bubblegum pop-rock band. And when I heard that song, my little ears were never the same again haha.
Five flames from my Dad, He loves Sweet, If we're driving along in his car and Ballroom Blitz comes on (classic rock station on radio) he cranks it like no tomorrow, Its a great song, To make fun of him I change "Ballroom Blitz" to Wall of Death and do dirty vocals.
Haha, come to think of it, "Ballroom Blitz" could be considered the first mosh pit song. It could be about moshing and definitely fast and heavy enough to be moshed to...could Sweet have prophesied what was to come 10 years later with bands like D.R.I., Anthrax, and Exodus??? Hmmmm...
I'd mosh to it to be honest, Hell...I'd mosh to anything, But in all seriousness! Both Sweet and bands alike would have some influence on Thrash / Crossover Thrash, Imagine if Anthrax did a cover!
